Image by renaissancechambara via FlickrIn August this year The Irish Post was shut down abruptly by its then owners TCH and on 19th October it returned to the newsstands. I happened to be in Coventry city centre on this day and called in the newsagents to buy the Daily Mirror. I was pleasantly surprised to see The Irish Post back in its usual place as if it had never gone away. The new owner Elgin Loane is a very successful businessman with printing and publishing businesses in London, Birmingham and Manchester and the future looks bright for some more years.I feel some affinity with the paper as way back in 1970 I attended an interview with Brendan MacLua and Tony Beatty for a vacancy to cover midlands events - sports etc. I think the main reason I was unsuccessful was because I did not have a camera. However the paper managed to survive for 41 years despite my absence and probably made the right decision to set off on the long journey without me.
